Who Must Perform Qurbani?
- Muslim, adult (post-puberty), and sane
- Must possess nisab — the Zakat threshold (~87.48g gold / ~612.36g silver in equivalent wealth)
- Not obligatory for children, those in debt below nisab, or the very poor
Valid Animals & Shares
- Sheep or goat = 1 share (1 household) · min. age: 1 yr
- Cow, bull, or buffalo = 7 shares · min. age: 2 yrs
- Camel = 7 shares · min. age: 5 yrs
- Animal must be free of obvious defects (not blind, lame, or emaciated)
Deadline & Timing
- Sacrifice on 10, 11, or 12 Dhul Hijjah (27–29 May 2026)
- Hanafi: last time is before sunset 12 Dhul Hijjah (29 May)
- Shafi'i / Maliki / Hanbali: extends to 13 Dhul Hijjah (30 May)
- Must be after Eid prayer — sacrifice before Eid prayer is not valid
- Delegating overseas is permissible
How to Distribute the Meat
- Divide into 3 equal parts:
- ⅓ for your own household
- ⅓ for relatives and neighbours
- ⅓ for those in need (charity)
- Many scholars allow giving more than ⅓ to charity
- Raw meat is preferred when giving to the poor

اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، وَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْدُ
Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, lā ilāha illallāhu, wallāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, wa lillāhi'l-ḥamd
"Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, there is no god but Allah; Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, and to Allah belongs all praise."
When to recite: After every fard (obligatory) prayer, from Fajr of 9 Dhul Hijjah (26 May) through Asr of 13 Dhul Hijjah (30 May 2026) — a total of 23 prayers.
⚠️ Many Muslims miss the Takbeer after fard prayers during the days of Tashreeq — it is wajib according to many scholars.

Eat AFTER the prayer — not before
Unlike Eid al-Fitr, you do NOT eat before prayer. Break your fast from the Qurbani meat after the Eid salah.
