9 Dhul Hijjah 1448 · The pinnacle of Hajj
The greatest day of the year — standing before Allah on the plain of Arafah. For those not on Hajj: fast and make dua.
Countdown to Arafah
"There is no day on which Allah frees more people from the Fire than the Day of Arafah."
Sahih Muslim 1348Fasting this day expiates the sins of two years — the year before and the year to come. It is an act of worship available to every Muslim, wherever they are in the world.
"I ask Allah that fasting on the Day of Arafah will expiate for the sins of the year before it and the year after it."
Sahih Muslim 1162Best dhikr of Arafah · Tirmidhi 3585
Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahu'l-mulku wa lahu'l-ḥamdu wa huwa ʿalā kulli shay'in qadīr
"There is none worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner. His is the dominion, His is all praise, and He has power over all things."
General supplication · Sahih Muslim 2696
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَاهْدِنِي وَارْزُقْنِي
Allāhumma-ghfir lī warḥamnī wahdinī warzuqnī
"O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me and provide for me."

The Day of Arafah 2027 falls on 15 May 2027 for pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. Countries following local moon sighting may observe it one day later.
Yes, it is strongly recommended. The Prophet ﷺ said fasting on the Day of Arafah expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year (Sahih Muslim 1162). It is not obligatory but highly encouraged for every Muslim not on Hajj.
Your fast begins at Fajr (sehri ends at Fajr time) and is broken at Maghrib (iftar). Times vary by city — see the fasting times widget above for your location.
The best dhikr is: Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahu’l-mulku wa lahu’l-ḥamdu wa huwa ʿalā kulli shay’in qadīr (Tirmidhi 3585). The afternoon of Arafah is among the best times for du’a all year.
No. Pilgrims standing at Arafah should NOT fast — they need energy for the Wuquf (standing). The Prophet ﷺ did not fast on this day during Hajj.
